East Palestine business gets chamber’s help to expand
EAST PALESTINE — A local business was awarded a $1,500 grant from the East Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce last week week in order to expand its facility.
Chamber Director Tim Weigle said the board of directors approved the grant for the 1820 House to add another 2,200-square feet to the facility.
The grants were started by the chamber in 2015 to help businesses with expansion projects or repairs. Businesses must apply for the funding to be considered.
Chamber Director Kent Chapman also noted during the meeting there is an opportunity to receive funding through the FedEx Small Business Grant contest.
The contest will award 10 small for-profit businesses with grants up to $25,000 and up to $7,500 in FedEx office print and business services.
Deadline for the contest is March 29 and the 100 finalists will be announced April 13. The top 10 winners will be announced April 25.
Non-profits are not eligible to enter the contest. Those who are interested can enter their business in the contest online at fedex.com/grantcontest.
The chamber also recognized a new business during the meeting.
Tri-County Mattress is owned by village councilman DJ Yokley and his wife Sarah.
Mrs. Yokley said the business sells mattresses that are about 50 to 80 percent below retail price and delivery within the village school district is free to customers. Those living outside the district pay $50 for delivery.
Discounts are available for veterans and current military and police and fire.
The business is located at 169 E. Taggart St. and is available by appointment Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Yokleys plan to add sheets, pillows and adjustable bed frames to the inventory in the future.
