Middleton schedules cleanup day

Middleton Township will have a township wide cleanup day, for township residents only, April 8. Scrap tire recycling will be 9 a.m. to noon at the township garage. Passenger car and light truck tires will only be accepted and tires cannot have rims on them. There will be a $1 charge per tire recycled. Volunteers, ages 18 and older, are needed for the roadside cleanup that will take place 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The township will accept items from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. at the township material storage lot east of Negley. Items that will be accepted are furniture, appliances, electronics, TVs and mattresses. No garbage, car batteries, paint or hazardous materials will be accepted.

Babysitter training offered

The county health department will offer a “Safe Sitter Course” from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. April 21. A representative of Akron Children’s Hospital will teach participants how to handle minor emergencies, lifesaving techniques, age appropriate activities, safety and security as well as basic child care. The course is for boys and girls ages 11-16 with a cost of $30. Each student will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course. Perry planning spring cleanup

Perry Township will hold its spring cleanup beginning April 17 on the north side and April 24 for the south side. State Street is the dividing line. The limit is one truckload per household and items should be placed by the curb in uniform order. Items should be able to be lifted by one person. Only car and small truck tires off the rims will be accepted but should be kept separate from the other items and will be picked up separately. Branches and twigs also must be bundled and will be picked up separately. No computer monitors, televisions or items containing freon are permitted. No propane tanks, no paint products or paint cans and no batteries are permitted either. The large appliance drop-off will be held in the parking lot off of Pershing and Lundy, commonly known as Timberlanes lot, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 12 and 8 a.m. to noon May 13. Nothing with freon and no computers will be accepted.

Railroaders plan flea market

The Youngstown Model Railroad Association will hold a toy train and model railroad flea market from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 9 at the Salem Center Plex.
