Liverpool Township offered spot on DTF
LaCROFT — With the drug epidemic still going on, the county’s drug task force will soon have some representation from the Liverpool Township Police Department.
During Monday’s township trustee meeting, Police Chief Jayson Jackson read a resolution from county commissioners which indicates the request of a member of the Liverpool Township department to serve with the task force.
According to Jackson, the commissioners noted the township’s interest in joining the drug task force, and added that action needs to be taken in order to clean up the area of the drug problems.
“We’re currently involved with the drug problems in the area that are beyond our control,” Jackson said. “We need to get something done. We need to get positive. We need to get these people out of our communities.”
According to the resolution, the commissioners would provide $20,000 to the township police, to be used only for the wages and related benefits to assign the officer to the drug task force for a year.
If the trustees do not find it financially feasible, they can provide the commissioners 15 days notice to terminate the agreement, and any remaining prorated funds would return to the commissioners.
Fiscal Officer Cristine Sell advised the trustees that the resolution has gone through a first reading, and two more will need to take place in order to make it effective.
