East Liverpool man sought in break-in at Chester bank
CHESTER, W.Va. — An East Liverpool man apparently couldn’t wait to rob a Chester bank while it was open, so he broke in while it was closed and got away with only a small amount of cash early Sunday morning, police said.
Chester police issued a warrant for the 19-year-old man, who was still at-large Monday night, and forwarded the warrant to East Liverpool police. The man lives in the 1700 block of Wooster Street in East Liverpool, according to a complaint filed in Hancock County Magistrate Court.
Police responded to the Northern Hancock Bank & Trust, 715 Carolina Ave., after getting a call from bank President Mark Mangano at 3:13 a.m. Sunday. The alarm company had reported an alarm at 2:52 a.m. Sunday, said police Chief Todd Murray.
Patrolman Brandon Whittaker arrived simultaneously with Hancock County sheriff’s Deputies Dante DiJirolanio and Hugh Tate, who deployed his K-9, Dagoo, inside the bank, the complaint said.
Officers found evidence that the man tried to gain entry through the drive-through window and then entered by breaking a window on the opposite side, the complaint said. Video camera footage showed a while male, wearing a gray hoodie, black pants, white socks and black Nike sandals, walking around with a black piece of clothing over his head.
Officers later learned that a man matching the same description had been to the Chester 7-11 and the Chaney’s Sunoco. They were able to identify the suspect through his front license plate, which could clearly be seen on one of the 7-11 video cameras, Murray said.
Police later impounded the car and obtained evidence from inside, he said.
