Golf club’s liquor option fails to make the ballot
LISBON – There will only be one liquor option on the Nov. 4 ballot instead of two following action taken Friday by the Columbiana County Board of Elections.
The board voted against certifying a liquor option for the Sleepy Hollow Golf Club, Homeworth Road, Knox Township, due to insufficient number of valid signatures on the petition.
The golf course was seeking voter permision to be able to sell alcoholic beverages from Monday through Saturday.
Elections board Director Adam Booth said to place the liquor option on the ballot the petitioners needed a minimum of 151 valid signatures from registered voters in the area. He said the petitions contained about 260 signatures, but only 146 were found by elections board staff to be valid.
The other liquor option petition is from the owners of the Lock 24 restaurant in Elkton, who are seeking voter approval to sell alcoholic beverages on Sunday. Booth said this option has a enough valid signatures to get on the ballot.
