Two-day Mile Branch Grange Fair opens Friday

KNOX TOWNSHIP- The 58th annual Mile Branch Grange Fair will open Friday. The event for the first time will be held over two days instead of the traditional three.

Although there will be one less day, the fair, located at the grange on Knox School Road half a mile south of U.S. Route 62, will still offer much the same activities as usual.

“We felt that two days was enough,” said fair board member Mary Jo Dye.

Noticeable differences this year from past fairs include one night of tractor pulls, the reintroduction of a dinner and the exclusion of rides. There will still be the pedal tractor pulls, hog wrestling and baby contests. Admission is $7 for anyone 6 years and older.

Friday’s schedule includes a car show from 4 to 7 p.m., fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m., a pedal tractor pull at 6:30 p.m. and a tractor pull at 7 p.m. Saturday features Kid’s Day activities at 2 p.m., the annual baby contest at 4 p.m., a pedal tractor pull at 5 p.m., a corn hole tournament at 5:30 p.m., a local band from 6 to 8 p.m. and the hog wrestling contest at 8 p.m.

The fair also features 4-H and other club exhibits plus food and craft exhibits submitted by the public and community members in the commercial building.

Items for the commercial building must be presented at the time of entry from 6 to 8 p.m. today or 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. Categories include flowers, baking and cooking, vegetables and fruits, canned goods, photography, sewing and art in adult and junior (15 years and younger) divisions. Entries for display are open to the public. For information call Patti Oyster at 330-821-6699.

This year’s dinner will be a fish fry sponsored by the Alliance Shrine Club in the pavilion. The menu includes French fries and cole slaw. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children 6 to 10 and free for children under 6. Carryouts will be available.

Entry cost for the car and truck show is $5. The first 20 cars get a plaque. There will also be 50/50 raffles and musical entertainment by DJ Shooting Star Melody.
