Man runs from East Liverpool store with cash register

EAST LIVERPOOL – City police are actively searching for a man they believe ran from an Avondale store with a cash register Thursday just minutes after unsuccessfully trying to take the register from a downtown dollar store.

According to detectives, the man entered the Walnut Street Dollar General and grabbed the register but was chased off by employees, failing to remove it from the store.

He got into a four-door white Dodge Charger and drove off, and eight minutes later, police were called to Gilkinson’s Short Stop on Avondale Street, where cashiers reported a man came in and placed an order for deli meat.

While the employee was filling his order, a loud noise was heard, and the man was seen running out of the store with the cash register.

Employees at both stores described the man as 5-feet, 9-inches tall, white, with shaggy black hair, wearing a black shirt and shorts and black and white tennis shoes.

A video depicting the man was provided to police from the Dollar General store.

Anyone with any information on this person is asked to contact police at 330-385-1234.
