Alleged Rite Aid thief arraigned in court

LISBON – A Youngstown man accused of stealing items from two Rite Aids last summer was arraigned Monday before Judge Mark Frost in Columbiana County Municipal Court.

A June 9 pretrial was set for Frank J. Crone, 35, Youngstown, charged with two counts of theft for allegedly placing $418 in merchandise into a cart and leaving the Lisbon Rite Aid on July 12, 2013 and then taking 18 boxes of Prilosec acid reducer on July 16, 2013 from the East Palestine Rite Aid.

Crone told Judge Frost he had sent a letter while in prison for another matter last November. In the letter, Crone said he wanted the court know he was available while incarcerated and would like to take care of his charges here. However, he was not able to return at that time.

Crone said he was considering pleading and if found guilty, Crone said he would like the judge to take into consideration he has already been incarcerated for the past 10 months.

Frost reminded Crone he would also be considering the 18-page criminal record Crone has, which mostly includes both felony and petty thefts.

Crone, who then pleaded not guilty, requested and was granted a public defender. Bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety.
