Salem robbery suspect sought

SALEM – Police are looking for a man who robbed Sally Beauty Supply and stole a store employee’s car and purse Monday afternoon.

“We do have a suspect and we are looking for that person,” Salem Police Chief J.T. Panezott said Tuesday.

The suspect is not a Salem resident, but previously lived in Columbiana County. The store is actually located in Mahoning County at 2955 E. State St. and the missing car was identified as a silver Chrysler Concorde.

According to police, the call came at 4:34 p.m. when the female victim, who worked at the store, reported two men she didn’t know entered and acted like they were going to purchase an item.

One of the men allegedly came around the counter and placed her in a head-lock, then took all the money from the cash register. He then took the keys to her vehicle and her purse. The man fled the store and told the other man to stay behind and make sure she didn’t call the police. The man who fled drove away in the woman’s car.

The report said the man left behind ran away from the store on foot, but was located by officers who found him in the area. He was brought to the police station for questioning and later released after consultation with the Mahoning County prosecutor’s office.

Panezott said no charges have been filed at this time, with the robbery still under investigation. No injuries were reported.

Anyone with information about the robbery or the location of the stolen car should contact Salem Police at 330-337-7811.
