King for a day

Shari Voltz’s fifth-grade class at East Liverpool’s Westgate School met King, an 1800-pound Percheron draft horse, Tuesday. Other grades also got to meet the majestic steed courtesy of Rick and Chris Steed of Carriage Limousine Service of Wellsville. Voltz’s fifth-graders are learning about how horses were introduced to North America and how they played an important role in the founding of the country. Voltz, who also heads the Westgate’s Equine Club, thought the best way for them to learn would be to get up close and personal with an actual horse.
