Vacant home gutted by fire
WEST POINT – Arson is being blamed for an early Sunday morning fire that destroyed a vacant home on state Route 45 in Madison Township.
“Obviously someone set it because there was no electric to it,” said West Point Fire Chief Wayne Chamberlain, whose department responded with five firefighters and an engine.
The home, located about two miles of West Point, was almost burned to the ground by the time the fire department received the first call shortly after 2 a.m., so Chamberlain said they had no chance of saving the structure, which was destroyed.
The fire department will have to determine ownership. Chamberlain said the two-story wood-frame home was last occupied about five years ago.
