Two seek council clerk job

EAST LIVERPOOL – Only two people have expressed an interest in the position of City Council clerk, one of them the current clerk Patrick Scafide, Thompson Avenue.

Also submitting a resume by Thursday’s deadline was Gale L. Hartley, West Fifth Street.

In a letter to council, Scafide advised he was seeking re-appointment to the position he has held eight years, saying, “I feel I have a great professional working relationship with all members of City Council and would consider it an honor to serve you as your clerk for the next two years.”

Scafide also said he hopes to work with council in its mission for the betterment of the city and its citizens.

Although he did not include a resume, Scafide is a dispatcher for the city police department.

Hartley is currently employed with Catholic Charities and with Adrian’s Restaurant, previously working for Modern Glass in Aliquippa, Pa. Hartley is an East Liverpool High School graduate.

Council plans on interviewing the candidates at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 6 just prior to its regular meeting, at which the newly appointed clerk will assume the duties of the position.

Although the salary is currently $350 per month, that rate will increase to $600 in January following action taken this past week by council.
