The snow was not unexpected, but it wreaked havoc on the roads nonetheless. Beginning about 3 p.m. Tuesday, falling snow stopped melting on roadways and accidents ensued. One of the first (photo at left) occurred on Winona Road between state Route 9 and Whinnery Road. Lucky Miller II, 33, of Salem lost control and slid off the road. His pickup split the pole in half, with the top half coming to rest in the bed of the truck. Patrol trooper Brian Kavanagh investigated the crash.
