Opossum suspect arraigned
LISBON – A Leetonia woman who reportedly pretended to be dead when she was found in the basement of a Wellsville home she allegedly broke into faces up to eight years in prison aggravated burglary.
Jessica M. Jewell appeared Monday morning by video arraignment in Columbiana County Municipal Court.
According to court documents, the homeowner, Joe DaLonzo, 78, Commerce Street, called village police on Friday stating someone had broken into his home and was dead in his work room closet.
Police told the woman to come out of the work room several times before she lifted her head up. She reportedly refused to show her hands when she was ordered several times to do so. She was found to have a knife in her right hand.
A Sept. 23 preliminary hearing and pretrial was set for Jewell, 30, state Route 558, Leetonia, who is charged with aggravated burglary, as well as resisting arrest. Bond was set at $100,000 cash or surety.
