Fair trees, actually they are quite nice

Steps have been taken toward relief from the heat, a little more shade and improved aesthetics at the Columbiana County Fairgrounds with the planting of 22 trees in the ride and concession areas. Through the generosity of local businessman and political leader Dave Johnson (left) and the work of Kenny Schwingle (right), owner of Valley View Nursery in Damascus, the trees were added to the grounds. Johnson, who fondly remembers spending his childhood summers running around the exhibits and animal barns to the current years manning the Republican Party tent at the fairgrounds, wanted to give back to the fair and the volunteers who have made the grounds so beautiful. Schwingle planted a variety of red, sunset and crimson king maples along with some flowering pears, oaks and sterling linden trees. Johnson and Schwingle expressed to fair board member Paul Lease (center) their hopes that more trees will be planted in the coming years filling in the more barren areas of the fairgrounds.
