Two injured in ELO robbery
EAST LIVERPOOL-A shooting incident involving four men and a robbery attempt early Saturday morning sent two of the men, including the alleged gunman, to the hospital.
Robert Ross, 23, of East Liverpool, and a 49-year-old man were taken by ambulance to East Liverpool City Hospital and later to a Pittsburgh hospital, East Liverpool police said in a news release. Ross has been charged with armed robbery, and other charges are pending, police said.
Police believe the 49-year-old man, who they did not identify, was shot by Ross and then took the gun away from him. Ross also was injured by an unnamed man holding a baseball bat, police said.
The incident happened at 12:27 a.m. Saturday at 340 E. Eighth St., Apt. 3, police said. Two officers and the city’s new police dog, Ivo, responded to a call of shots fired and found a man holding a baseball bat and Ross sitting on the floor in front of him with his head covered in blood, the news release said.
While officers were disarming the man with the baseball bat, another man, the 49-year-old, came from the kitchen holding a gun, police said. He told police that he had been shot by Ross.
A fourth man, an unidentified 21-year-old, was found in the apartment with wounds to the back of his head. He told police that he had been pistol-whipped by Ross.
Witnesses told police that Ross entered the apartment wearing a mask and a toboggan and carrying a gun. Ross allegedly demanded money and other items from the residents, police said.
The apartment occupants fought with Ross, resulting in lacerations to his head, and were able to wrestle the gun away from him after the 49-year-old was shot, police said.
Officers recovered a baseball bat and a .38 Special revolver with two spent casings. Patrolman Chad Tatgenhorst and Ivo also located one ounce of what is believed to be marijuana, police said.
The news release did not say where the victim was shot or how serious his or Ross’ wounds are.
City police Detectives Don Fickes and Rob Smith are investigating.
