Blaze brings fire crews out early

WELLSVILLE – Volunteer firefighters from the village and Highlandtown fire departments responded Tuesday morning to a blaze on 16 School Road that burned a house trailer, camper and pickup truck.

According to fire officials, the alarm was sounded at 1:45 a.m. for a structure fire at 20687 16 School Road, where firefighters arrived to find a camper trailer and house trailer heavily involved.

The fire was progressing along the camper’s tongue toward two propane tanks when firefighters arrived on the scene, and the blaze had extended to a nearby pickup truck.

The blaze was contained by 3:45 a.m. with assistance from Liverpool Township, which brought a tanker, according to village fire Chief Bill Smith.

The camper is owned by Greg Baker and was unoccupied, as was the house trailer, whose owner was not immediately known. The 1987 Chevy pickup is owned by Dave Berkheimer and had damage to the rear end, with the rear passenger tire burned off.

Officials did not report the extent of damage to the two trailers or whether any of the damaged items were insured.
