Man arrested in meth raid

SALEM – A Salem man is being held in the county jail after a search warrant was executed at 445 S. Broadway Thursday morning.

John Stoffer, 50, was arrested at his home by agents of the county Drug Task Force after heroin, methamphetamine, chemicals used to make methamphetamine and a rifle were seized at the residence at about 8:53 a.m.

He was arrested on an outstanding warrant for possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, and the DTF charged him with possession of chemicals to produce methamphetamine, a second-degree felony.

Salem police blocked off Broadway and Columbia Street while the fire department staged a vehicle at Broadway.

The back door to the residence had been kicked in and was open.

Last February, a burned out Molotov cocktail was found in front of the residence, according to Lt. Don Beeson.

In addition to the DTF, sheriff’s deputies, the county’s Special Response Team and Drug Enforcement Administration agents took part in the search.
