Three new permits bring county tally to 64 since 2010
LISBON – Three new drilling permits applications have been submitted and/or approved for Columbiana County over the past five weeks.
Two of the permits are for Franklin Township, including the Lamp property off Foundry Hill Road and Manziel property in Section 31. Although no specific access road was listed for the Manziel property, the only roads in the section are Foundry Hill, Dobson, McSwiggen and state Route 644.
The other permit is for the Polen property in Washington Township, accessible from state Route 644.
The applicant in all three instances is Chesapeake Exploration.
This brings to 64 the number of new drilling permits issued in the county since the oil and gas leasing boom began in mid 2010, although in some instances there is more than one well per site.
Four wells are currently producing, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources website: one at Sanor Farms in Knox Township and three at Ayerview Acres in West Township.
Following is a list of the permitted sites by township: Butler, 5; Center, 5; Elkrun, 7; Fairfield, 4; Franklin, 8; Hanover, 10; Knox, 4; Madison, 2; Middleton, 5; Salem, 5; Unity, 2; Washington, 3; West, 2; and Yellow Creek, 1.
The only townships without permits remain Liverpool, Perry, St. Clair and Wayne.
