Crashes claim 2 lives
LISBON – Separate accidents on the same road nearly four hours apart Monday claimed the lives of two county residents.
The highway patrol identified the victims as Megan Thornhill, 22, of Lisbon, and Barbara M. Burt, 75, of Columbiana.
Thornhill was killed in a two-vehicle crash at 7:38 a.m. on state Route 517 near the intersection of Davner Road in Elkrun Township.
According to the patrol, Thornhill was eastbound on Route 517 when she lost control. The 2000 Dodge Stratus went left of center and collided with a westbound 2007 Hyundai Accent driven by Tonia S. Lydia-Duncan, 36, of East Palestine.
Thornhill was taken by KLG EMS to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown where she was pronounced dead.
Lydia-Duncan also was taken by KLG to St. Elizabeth’s with non-life threatening injuries.
The accident that took the life of Barbara Burt occurred at 11:14 a.m. It came on Route 517 near the railroad tracks and the Low Road intersection, about five miles east of the earlier crash.
Burt was a passenger in a car driven by Eric E. Shepherd, 77, of Columbiana.
The patrol said Shepherd was eastbound when he lost control of his 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis. The vehicle went left of center and collided with a westbound 2005 Buick Rendezvous driven by Amanda L. Noel, 27, of East Palestine.
Burt was pronounced dead at the scene by a representative from the county coroner’s office.
Shepherd was taken by New Waterford EMS to St. Elizabeth’s.
Noel was taken by Columbiana EMS to St. Elizabeth’s with non-life threatening injuries, as were her two passengers, Brian S. Moore, 25, of East Palestine, and a juvenile.
Both accidents remain under investigation by the patrol.
