COURT NEWS

LISBON — After the Seventh District Court of Appeals ruled recently that evidence should have been suppressed in the heroin possession case against Todd E. White Jr., 32, Youngstown, in 2015, the charge was dismissed this week in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court. The appeals court ruled the heroin in White’s shoe would not have been found if he had not been taken into custody for driving under suspension. Therefore the court reversed the decision of Judge Scott Washam in a suppression hearing.

Rameon Sumlin pleaded guilty to possession of drugs and having weapons while under a disability. He is facing up to four and a half years in prison and a $15,000 fine. Sumlin had cocaine and a 9mm Smith and Wesson semi-automatic handgun on July 14, 2016. Sentencing is set for Aug. 20.

A robbery charge against Mark D. Paradinovich, 62, Riverview Street, East Liverpool, has been dismissed after he died prior to trial. He had been accused of attempting to rob the Newell Bridge toll taker by indicating he had a gun in his pocket on May 10, 2017.
