LISBON – Sharon M. Mitchell, 38, Woodworth Road, New Springfield, was served an indictment in Alaska for failure to appear on a criminal case on March 24, after she was out on bond awaiting sentencing.
The indictment for the new failure to appear charge was issued by the Columbiana County Common Pleas Court grand jury in May.
Facing up to 34 years in prison for 28 counts of deception to obtain a dangerous drugs Mitchell has been released on a $10,000 recognizance bond in March of 2013 and appeared at all of her hearings throughout the legal process right up until her sentencing hearing. In March of 2014, after hearing from her attorney Jennifer Gorby that Mitchell may be in Alaska but planned to possibly return in July, Judge C. Ashley Pike issued a bench warrant.
Sheriff Ray Stone said Friday it cost his department $6,000 to go to Alaska to retrieve Mitchell.
A status conference has been set for July 14.
LISBON – Nine open indictments and one superseding indictments were among 39 indictments issued by the county grand jury, which met over two days this week.
The jury also issued no indictment on two cases presented. The 29 secret indictments will be released as they are served. The other indictments are:
Michael F. Hipsley, 21, state Route 39, Salineville, is charged with burglary for allegedly, along with a juvenile co-defendant, breaking into the home of Dale Beadnell, Fink Road, Salineville, on April 25, 2014.
Robert L. Tucker, 63, Campground Road, Wellsville, is charged with robbery for allegedly pushing Ian Urich out of the way while he was attempting to stop Tucker from stealing from the Calcutta Walmart on March 29.
Franklin A. McKinnon, 60, Penn Avenue, East Liverpool, is charged with four counts of receiving stolen property for allegedly having Jennifer Weible’s Citi Mastercard, Home Savings bank card and two J.C. Penney credit cards in his possession on May 28.
Matthew J. Ankrom, 23, Rose Drive, Lisbon, is charged with receiving stolen property and forgery. He is alleged to have taken a check from the account of Alexis Faloba at Home Savings and used it on March 31.
Brian K. Johnston, 41, Y and O Road, East Liverpool, is charged with receiving stolen property for allegedly having a 2007 Ford Ranger pickup owned by James Sounders without his permission on May 29.
Joshua J. Hoover, 29, Brown Street, Lisbon, is charged with possession of drugs and tampering with evidence. Hoover allegedly had heroin on April 21. Additionally he reportedly tried to hide two hypodermic needles behind the front tire of a van parked in the municipal court parking lot and threw two spoons with heroin residue into the curblawn near the van, which had been stopped by a police cruiser while he was the passenger.
James L. Heverly, 41, South Ellsworth Avenue, Salem, is charged with receiving stolen property for allegedly having 1,145 pounds of copper wire belonging to All Demolition and Co. on April 8 and trying to sell it at Downtown Metals in Salem. The copper was valued at $2,977.
Christopher A. Griffith, 53, Foundry Hill Road, Hanoverton, is charged with OVI , a felony due to three total previous OVI convictions in 2010 and 2012. Court documents allege he was driving while intoxicated on April 26.
A superseding indictment was issued for Elijah J. Taylor, 34, Youngstown, charged with possession of drugs and failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer. Taylor is alleged to have first fled police attempting to stop his vehicle at about 3 a.m. on Aug. 18, 2013 and then to have a crack pipe and a small amount of cocaine inside the vehicle after it was seized.
Joseph O. Altenburg, 27, Youngstown, is charged with criminal damaging, a second degree misdemeanor, for allegedly damaging a police cruiser owned by the sheriff’s office on May 26.
LISBON – A secret indictment was served on Heather R. Boots, 35, last known address Pinetree Circle, East Palestine, charged with possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, for less than a gram heroin allegedly in her possession on Oct. 23, 2012. The indictment was issued by the grand jury in March.
Lauren M. McKinnon, 25, Erie Street, East Liverpool, was served an indictment from 2010 on failure to appear on a recognizance bond.
LISBON – Donald A. Byrd, 40, St. George Street, East Liverpool, was served a secret indictment on two counts of possession of drugs with a forfeiture specification. Byrd allegedly had heroin and cocaine in his possession on Jan. 1, along with $552 believed to be intended for use in drug-related offenses. The indictment was issued by the Columbiana County Common Pleas Court grand jury in May.
