Lisbon couple marks 70th year
LISBON – John and Mary Schnader, Lisbon, were joined by family and friends in celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary on Aug. 11 at the Salem Golf Club. The celebration was hosted by their children, Gene Schnader, Gale (Mike) Prasco and Dennis Schnader, all of Salem.
The former Mary Smallwood, married John Schnader on Aug. 7, 1943 at the New Lebanon Presbyterian Church of Gavers.
Mr. Schnader served as a second lieutenant in the Army Parachute Infantry during World War II and the Korean War. He worked for E.W. Bliss Company of Salem as a purchasing agent for 40 years, retiring in 1987.
Mrs. Schnader was a homemaker and soloist, as well as, an avid gardener.
They are both active members of the St. Jacobs United Church of Christ.
Along with their three children, the couple has six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
