65th year for New Garden couple
NEW GARDEN – Mr. and Mrs. Karl Humphrey, state Route 9, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Aug. 28.
The former Alfreda Aegerter, married Karl Humphrey on Aug. 28, 1948, at the East Rochester Methodist Church parsonage. Rev. Chalfaint performed the private double marriage ceremony along with the late Homer and Ruth Stryffeler.
They owned Humphrey Insurance Agency prior to their retirements and had previously owned and operated Humphrey TV & Appliance in New Garden. At one time, the couple also owned multiple apartments and a small diner.
Mr. Humphrey was employed with Ohio Edison following his return from the U.S. Army, 11th Airborne Division, and later was a United Local school bus driver. He has also played trumpet in several dance bands.
Mrs. Humphrey is a homemaker.
They are members of the Bethesda Presbyterian Church.
The couple have three children, Bill (Wanda) Humphrey, Homeworth; Mark (Sally) Humphrey and Karen (Joe) Kosko, all of Hanoverton. They also have have five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
